Horace Mann Laboratory School

Horace Mann Laboratory School and Early Care and Education Laboratory Center is an innovative program that provides a clinical experience for pre-service teachers, and a diverse and interactive learning environment for children ages 3 through sixth grades. Housed in Brown Hall, Horace Mann Laboratory School is a kindergarten-sixth grade school with about 130 students. Additionally, early childhood classes for children age 3 through pre-kindergarten are based in the Early Childhood Center on the lower level.

Since the first classes were offered in 1906, training of teachers, while providing an exemplary child-center integrated curriculum, has been a primary function. From the day they walk onto campus, Northwest students have opportunities to observe master teachers and instruct the elementary students in all areas. Northwest education majors gain hands-on, practical classroom experience that gives them an edge on graduates of other schools.

With 20 to 25 students per classroom and numerous university students in attendance every day, Horace Mann is a busy, exciting school.
